Sagacity and Scripture

Sagacity means the trait of making solid judgments, intelligent choices, and  discerning wisdom. All should be applied to the study of the Scriptures.

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (01)
Jesus said in Jn. 14:6 that He was “the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father except by Me.”  In an age in which many today call for tolerance and acceptance, it would seem that Jesus is saying that the only way to live and go to heaven is to do so His way.  Christianity is, to some extent, an very exclusive religion.  It is offered to all, but the terms of entrance demand allegiance to one Master (Mt. 7:21). Jesus made it clear that you either follow Him or someone else—there is no middle ground (Lk. 11:23).  But then again, why would I want to follow anyone else, if I know I can belong to the Son of God?

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (02)
One of the great debates in Scripture is that between faith and works. The apostle Paul says that we are saved by faith apart from works in Rom. 3:26-28. Yet James will argue in his letter that “faith without works is dead” (Jas. 2:26). We know that faith is important because without it we cannot please God (Heb. 11:6). Yet, several times in the New Testament we are told to be faithful and engage in good works (Rev. 2:10; Ti. 2:14; Phil. 2:12). One preacher tried to answer the question by saying, “Faith alone saves, but the faith that saves is not alone.” So which is it—faith or works?
Without faith it is impossible to please God and it is unthinkable that someone by their works could earn their salvation. But the Christian life is to be full of good works. Christians are called to preach the gospel, serve the benevolent needs of others, and be an example of a Christ-like life. All of that means that works are acceptable in the sight of God. Has your faith prompted your to obey Christ and exhibit works?

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (03)
In Mt. 16:18 Jesus said that He would build His church. To what did Jesus have in mind? A building where people could come together and worship or was He talking about the people themselves? Many times we tell others we are busy on Sunday mornings because we are “going to church.” And then we travel to a building to worship God with other believers. But are we already the church because the church is not a building but rather is everyone who is saved (Ac. 2:47).
Jesus said He would build His church (Mt. 16:18). And in saying that He was not talking about a building, but rather a called out people. The church is made up of those who have been called out of the world by their response to the gospel of Christ (2Th. 1:14). This special group of people must preach the word (Eph. 3:10), teach those who are converted (Eph. 4:11-17), and serve the physical needs of those less fortunate (Gal. 6:9,10). A building cannot do that.

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (04)
The apostle Paul spoke of “a war within” in Rom. 7:14-23. The good that he wanted to do, he had trouble doing, and the evil that he did not want to do, seemed to always come out. He was torn between what he knew to be right, and the fact that he did not always do what was right. Sound familiar? As hard as we try we are not perfect. Our good deeds will probably outnumber our evil ones, but that does not excuse the evil ones!
It is no wonder that many people who become Christians get discouraged and give up! They don’t believe they can live the Christian life. What is a person to do? Is the Christian life a hopeless dream?
Not at all! Christ does not ask perfection, He asks for faithfulness. No one is perfect, and will sin from time to time. But it is the faithful child of God who has the forgiveness they need by the blood of Christ (see 1Jn. 1:6,7). We are to grow up into the likeness of Jesus (Eph. 4:15), and walk in the light (Eph. 5:8). The goal is faithfulness, not perfection—and with the grace of God we can win “the war within.”

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (05)
Jesus said, “There is none good except God alone.” This brings up an interesting question. What can be defined as being good? Good to one person may be bad to someone else. When my favorite sports teams loses that is bad, but those who rooted for the winners think it is good. Can something be both good and bad at the same time?
Isaiah said that the evil society of his day was calling good things evil and evil things good (Isa. 5:20). Who is right? How can determine good from bad and right from wrong? Is my conscience a good guide?
When Jesus said in Mk. 10:18 that “No one is good except God alone” I believe He was pointing to the fact that it should be the Father alone who determines what is good and what is bad. As we learn more of the Father’s will we will know what is good (right) and bad (sinful). If we don’t have this common ground of authorization we will never have agreement on what proper morality is.
My conscience is not a good guide, because it may not agree with God, and He alone is good.

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (06)
In our pleasure loving world some have tried to make the Christian walk as easy as possible. They rarely, if ever talk about sin, and never challenge someone to be a “living sacrifice.”
But there are passages of Scripture that teach just that—the faithful Christian life is one of self-denial, sacrifice, and even “death” (Lk. 9:23; Rom. 12:1,2; Gal. 2:20). Peter told the Jews on Pentecost to repent—which means to feel sorry for what they had done, and change their lives.
Does this mean that there is no joy or happiness in the Christian life? Are the followers of Jesus doomed to a life of dreadful service? The key to solving the dilemma is to redefine what “fun” is. If fun is sinful things, then that definition has to change. Joy is the result of knowing that our lives are acceptable to God through Christ. We find in God the joy that Jesus wants us to have in full (Jn. 15:11).
It’s not hard to give up sinful practices when you no longer find them to be fun. God’s commands are not burdensome.

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (07)
The Bible says that without faith it is impossible to please God (Heb. 11:6). But that begs the question, “Can a person believe whatever they want?” No doubt there are many different kinds of belief systems in the world. Does pluralism tell us that each person can believe what they want to, just so long as they believe?
One passage that sheds some light on this subject is Romans 10:17. It says that faith comes from hearing the words of Christ. A faith that is based on anything or anyone other than the Son of God may not be an acceptable faith. Where is your faith based?

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (08)
One of the blessings of the Internet are websites that offer driving directions. Just type in where you are and where you want to go and it does the rest. Most of the time it gives the shortest distance between the two locations. Sometimes it even sends you on a route you had not previously considered.
Which brings up this week’s question:  “How many ways are there to get to heaven?” The Bible tells each of us that we are lost in sin and that the end destination is heaven. So how do we get there? Is there more than one way? Which “road” do we take? I have an app for that! Read John 14:6.

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (09)
If you won a prize would you give it back? Maybe you did nothing to earn or merit the reward—would you, by virtue of knowing you didn’t deserve it, refuse it? Sadly, the majority do this very thing with the free gift of salvation (Eph. 2:8,9). Even though we didn’t earn it or deserve it, God offers it through Jesus Christ. More than likely if we win a prize we claim it and gladly accept it. But far too many are offered salvation in Christ by the grace of God and refuse it.
In such cases is God obligated to distribute the prize (salvation) anyway? With that in mind, read Hebrews 10:26-31.
  --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (10)
Skeptics have tried over the years to find contradictions in the Bible. They have pointed at various things hoping to find a error. The purpose of this is to discredit the Bible as being the inspired word of God. But my question is why do people try to do this? Could it be that the message of the Scriptures has convicted them of their lifestyle and instead of changing their life they try to disprove the moral record that stands opposition to them? Just the opposite is true; if everyone practiced the moral code of the New Testament just think of how wonderful the world would be? The problem is not the word of God, the problem is with those who will not yield to its commands and be saved. With sagacity, make the application to your life!
   --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (11)
Humans have a fascination with the future. Since we can’t see one split-second into it, whenever someone comes along saying they can predict the future many folks are “all ears.” Forecasters, over the years, have tried to predict elections, the weather, and the outcomes of sporting events. Sometimes they get it right, but most of the time they don’t!
The Bible is the greatest book ever written and it is a forecaster of future events! Literally, hundreds of predictions have come true. With a perfect “track record” of never missing a prediction why is that so few believe in the inspiration of the Bible? Since the Bible has been correct thus far in prophecy given and prophecy fulfilled, there should be little doubt that all of the New Testament prophecy will also come to pass. Are you prepared/ready? With sagacity, make the application to your life!
   --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (12)
Is cleanliness next to godliness? Well, I hope so, for those who believe that proverb. The truth is, the above statement is not found in the Bible. What is commanded, is that we are to take care of our bodies (1Cor. 6:13-20), and spiritual training is even more important than physical discipline (1Tim. 4:8). But my point is this: If people believe the above proverb is in the Bible, what else might they believe that the Bible doesn’t say? Hence, there is no substitute for truly knowing the word of God. Ignorance is not bliss—ignorance is damnation (Hosea 4:6). When it comes to the Bible, do you know or only think you know? With sagacity, make the application to your life!
 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (13)
The word “love” has been over-worked, over-used, and under-understood! We say we love ice cream, but is that the same as the love we have for our spouse? We say we love a certain sport or sports team, but is that the same as our love for our family?
And more importantly we say we love the Lord, but does it show in our actions? It is one thing to say we love someone or something but quite another to prove that love. To love is to be devoted with a strong emotional attachment and it also means to do the right thing for whom/that which we love.
If you say you love God, are you devoted to Him with a strong emotional attachment that prompts you to do the right thing? We are not to love in word or tongue but in deed and in truth (see 1Jn. 3:18). With sagacity, make the application to your life!
 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (14)
Talk is cheap. Many folks boast of this and that. “When it is all said and done, there is usually more said than done.” Many promise much and do very little. It is easy to say all the right things, and very difficult to do all the right things.
A person of godly character will make good on their word. You can believe their talk, because their walk is worthy of their talk. This is the opposite of hypocrisy and a good foundation for any relationship.
Talking the talk is not as important as walking the walk. The apostle John spoke to this problem in 1John 1:6,7. May our goal be to first walk the walk, and then talk the talk. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (15)
Have you ever heard of GIGO? This acrostic stands for Garbage In, Garbage Out. This principle is true in the computer world. Fill a computer with bad information and all you will receive is bad information. It’s not the computer’s fault—it just spit out what it was given.
But GIGO is true in other parts of life too. If we fill ourselves up with bad things, bad things will come out. It is nonsense to think that we could fill up on bad things and have good things as the result. Jesus endorsed the GIGO principle in Mt. 7:17-20.
Be careful as to what you watch, listen to, and read—GIGO! With sagacity, make the application to your life!
 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (16)
Everyone is usually quick to give an opinion. Just listen to someone talk along enough and you will find out what is important to them. Others are extremely opinionate about life. They make it a point to be sure everyone has heard what they have to say. But step back and think about all the opinions of life; who determines if the opinion is valid? Who determines if we are on the right track? Who am I, and who are you, to determine our own paths in life with all of our opinions? Proverbs 14:12 keeps coming to mind.
You see, it doesn’t really matter what I (or you) think. What matters is what the Bible says. You have probably seen the saying, “God said it; I believe it; that settles it!” But may I suggest to you this famous bumper-sticker statement is out of order. Wouldn’t it be better if it read, “God said it; that settles it; and I believe it!” If that be the case, who needs opinions!? With sagacity, make the application to your life!
 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (17)
Sometimes you can read an enjoyable story but miss the point! The story is told of a mom asking her son what he learned in Bible class. He said that he learned that, “God will take care of you no matter what.” “But, what did you learn?” insisted mom. The conversation went back and forth like this for a while until the small boy said, “Well, we did hear a story about a man, his family, a boat, and flood.”
As much as I enjoy the story of Noah and the ark (Gen. 6-9), the details may not be as important as the lessons to be learned. This student’s wise teacher made a wonderful application so that the boy did not miss the point of the story. Have you read the Bible lately, only to miss the point? With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (18)
In some ways I wish I were perfect. Never making a mistake, always on time, and always saying the right thing would be so nice. But I know full well, as do you, that this is not reality. Yet, the Bible speaks of the sinless perfection of Christ and how we are to imitate Him (1Pet. 2:21,22). What is a person to do?
The answer is found in the fact that when God has asked us to be perfect (Mt. 5:48) He wants us to be spiritually mature and complete. Perfection does not mean that by our own efforts we become sinless. Perfection means living up to your potential, doing the best you can, and striving to improve each day. See Mt. 25:23; 2Tim. 2:2; Rev. 2:10. Join me in working on being mature, more like God each day, you know, perfect. With sagacity, make the application to your life!
 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (19)
Jesus taught His followers to love their fellowman as they love themselves. The attitude of generosity and forgiveness toward other people helps us to overlook the many unpleasant and often irritating situations we face daily. Not only does love make our lives more enjoyable, but it will help others with their problems too. A smile and a bit of encouragement may be just what it takes to make someone’s day successful. See 1John 4:16.
Don’t be part of the “me generation” or grouped with the “selfies” who are only looking for “What’s in it for me?” Love is not selfish, love is selfless. With sagacity, make the application to your life!
 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (20)
No matter what mistakes you may have made, God is always willing to accept you and forgive you, if you will let Him guide your life. God won’t help you if you continue to sin or make the same errors again and again because you aren’t trying to improve. God will start rewarding you spiritually and materially as you begin to live the life He wants you to live. You may need to change your habits, attitudes, and even your associates, but if you do, God will bring you greater happiness and forgiveness. In many if not most cases, the things you give up are the things you shouldn’t be doing anyway. Jesus said His yoke was easy and His burden is light (Mt. 11:28-30), so doing things His way actually works better! See 2Chronicles 7:14.
Some Christians want to serve God, but only on their own terms. Are you living life your way, or God’s way? With sagacity, make the application to your life!
 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (21)
Life on this earth is short, at best, and the material assets we acquire while we live here are only ours for a short time (Mt. 6:20). When death comes, all that we have in fame and fortune must be left behind too. The only thing we will have left is the relationship we have established with God during our earthly existence. Jesus promises the person who has been born again through baptism an eternal home in His heavenly kingdom (Jn. 3:5).. Those who invest in Christian living are truly wealthy. So, are you wealthy towards the world or wealthy towards God? Can a person have both? With sagacity, make the application to your life!
--------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (22)
Most people have circumstances in their lives which produce stress, anxiety, and unhappiness. Peace is achieved when one is able to live successfully in spite of all the conflicts (Jn. 14:27). There have been many recorded instances of people who under very difficult or trying circumstances found strength, confidence, and peace through prayer to God. God hears all prayers and in His wisdom knows exactly how to bless. The faithful Christian also knows that the Holy Spirit is with him/her at all times and will help them find peace. The Spirit intercedes for us in prayer to be sure that our prayers express our innermost feelings (Rom. 8:26,27). The absence of peace in the midst of stress, anxiety, and unhappiness may mean the absence of prayer. Take a look at Philippians 4:6,7 and then with sagacity, make the application to your life!
 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (23)
Everybody wants to be a winner. So much so that those who lose are sometimes given an award or trophy so that everyone is a winner. Of course, everyone doesn’t win every contest. Learning to be a good loser can mean greater maturity and a greater resolve to do better next time. God’s people are the real winners in this life. Not only are they the happiest and most truly successful people, but God promises the faithful a home in heaven after this life (1Cor. 15:57). No greater prize can be received than to be accepted by God and be on His winning team. Those who reject Jesus in this life are the real losers (Jn. 12:48).
God, through Jesus, is ready to make you into an eternal winner! Don’t decline the offer. Your faith and obedience means salvation through God’s grace. Christ offers the abundant life here, and eternal life hereafter. Does it make any sense to say “No”? With sagacity, make the application to your life!
 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (24)
One of the basic causes of decaying family life is the lack of Christian love. The family was instituted by God and for it to function properly everyone must adhere to basic Christian principles. One such principle is agape love. Agape love is a self-sacrificing love that will try to do the right thing even if the emotion is not in it. This love is expressed in showing kindness, affection, forgiveness, tolerance, helpfulness, and self-sacrifice. A person who is trying to give agape love will be disciplined with their time, actions, words, and possessions. Interestingly enough, it is these things that will bring greater happiness. Apply the list above to your family life and you will be richly blessed (Prov. 15:17). Let God be the head of your household by allowing Him to be the Master of your life! Your family can be what is it is supposed to be when you are what you are supposed be. With sagacity, make the application to your life!
 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (25)
Many people invest their time and money and lose both in poor investments. The only sure investment with high returns and no risk is in Christian living (Rom. 6:23). Living the way Jesus taught brings big dividends of happiness, love, health, and prosperity during our earthly lifetime and ends with a perpetual retirement in heaven so wonderful that it exceeds the imagination! Money is not the best investment. Investing your soul in what the Bible says will pay eternal rewards. May your interest be in going to heaven and not on earthly riches. Where are you investing? How much are you investing? Why do you think people refuse to invest in eternal life? With sagacity, make the application to your life!
 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (26)
Real success is achieved only when all phases of life become what they ought to be. Many focus on things physical and material to gauge success. But total success cannot be realized without spiritual development. Ignoring the spiritual side of life is tragic. Only the Christian lifestyle has it all. Those who use Jesus and the Scriptures as their standard of living are on their way to a successful life. Christianity offers success by way of a good family life, enjoyable business, good health, peace of mind, and the hope of eternal life. Material success cannot deliver what spiritual success guarantees. One’s material wealth will be gone when this life is over, but real success lasts forever. Are you planning for what is here and not what is hereafter? “For what is a man profited, if he gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mt. 16:26). What do you think? With sagacity, make the application to your life!
 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (27)
In periods of governmental, financial, and moral instability many people wonder if there is anything where they can put their faith and trust. It would seem that our world today is on the edge of chaos. What is a person to do? Where can they turn? The answer lies in a relationship with the One who does not change; Jesus Christ. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Heb. 13:8). Jesus and the church for which He died will always be in existence (Mt. 16:18). No one merits your allegiance and loyalty as does Jesus. If you are ready for a rock-solid relationship in the storms/chaos of life, then you are ready for a relationship with Jesus. With sagacity, make the application to your life!
 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (28)

Love was not something that the first century Romans put a lot of value in. They were into power, might, and authority. So when Jesus said, “A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another” (Jn. 13:34) that must have been a radical thought! But if we follow His advice, the Lord will give us strength, courage, and wisdom in all things. The reason is simple, “Love never fails!” (1Cor. 13:8). Loving your spouse, children, fellow workers, and even your enemies will improve each of those relationships. Are you ready to make things in your life better? Forget power, might, authority, and wealth; try love; Jesus style! Try it for a week and see if things don’t improve; I think they will! With sagacity, make the application to your life!
 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (29)
Repentance means a change of mind or heart that results in a change of action. When a person repents they make the decision to stop doing certain things, and their life will show that change. Jesus teaches that people are to repent of their sins if they want to be pleasing to God (Lk. 13:3,5). But it is not easy to change, and many find that giving up some things (behaviors) is very difficult. Maybe that is why some people get discouraged in trying to live the Christian life; they want all the blessings and promises, without the cost. Repentance is a lifelong task, the more you do it, the easier it should become. Don’t give up! Without this kind of change we are not going to be what God wants us to be (Rom. 12:1,2). With sagacity, make the application to your life!
 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (30)
The New Testament teaches baptism. Notice the following; baptism is an immersion (Col. 2:12); baptism is an act of obedience (Ac. 8:36); and baptism puts one into a saved relationship with Jesus Christ (1Pet. 3:21). In the very first gospel sermon, the apostle Peter told the believing Jews to be baptized (Ac. 2:38). Jesus commands baptism (Mk. 16:16); the apostles preached baptism (Ac. 10:48; 19:5); and the early church practiced it (Ac. 8:12). Yet, many today want to claim salvation without it. Be it ever true that everyone is saved by grace through faith, part of that obedient faith is being baptized (Jn. 3:5; Titus 3:3-7). If you have not been baptized it is time to reevaluate your obedience to God. With sagacity, make the application to your life!
  --------------------------

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (31)
The Christian way of living is just “good common sense!” A person whose actions are foolish or dangerous lacks “good common sense” when compared to a person who lives wisely and acts prudently (Prov. 16:21). For those who need direction, the Bible is filled with sound advice for solving today’s social, economic, an spiritual difficulties. When one applies Jesus’ teachings, they obtain the tools needed to avoid/solve today’s problems. God not only blesses Christian people in many special ways but provides a home in heaven for the faithful. Isn’t living the Christian life just “good common sense?” With sagacity, make the application to your life!

 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (32)
Can you afford to live without Jesus? The Bible affirms that God is alive and controls the universe; that Jesus is the Son of God the promised Messiah; that heaven is wonderful, and hell is the destiny of all sinners. With these facts in mind, how can you afford to do anything but dedicate your entire life to God’s service? See Mt. 16:26. To live in this way means you have everything to gain and nothing to lose. To reject the message means you have everything to lose and nothing to gain. Can you afford to live without Jesus? Is your gamble worth it? With sagacity, make the application to your life!
 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (33)
Most of us cringe at the thought of sacrifice. Many live in an “entitlement mode” that says everything must be given to them without sacrifice of any kind. On the whole, we don’t want to sacrifice anything; we want just the opposite—we want it all! Whenever one speaks of sacrificing material wealth, personal power, time, and energy most people reject that message. Yet, Jesus sacrificed Himself for us (Mt. 20:28) and calls us to do the same thing (Lk. 14:28ff). The apostle Paul instructs us to become a living sacrifice for the Lord (Rom. 12:1,2). You cannot give to God a life that costs you nothing (see 2Sam. 24:24). For your Christianity to be what God wants it to be what are you sacrificing? With sagacity, make the application to your life!
 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (34)
Christianity believes in the family unit of Dad, Mom and the kids. Children are important to Jesus (Mt. 19:14). Childhood is the time when the foundation is laid for a productive adult life. Children who experience love, security, and are wisely counseled by conscientious Christian parents are prepared to meet the problems of the world. No parents are better qualified to help their children than are parents who are Christians. Numerous surveys have shown that when both parents are faithful Christians the children have the best chance of becoming happy Christian adults. Give your children the best possible gift—a Christian home. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (35)
Christianity teaches patience (Jas. 1:4). In our busy world where stress and anxiety are common causes for heart attacks and broken homes, patience is a golden quality. Patience permits a person to appreciate the simple qualities in others and endure the traumatic experiences of everyday living. People who live the Christian way learn that patience through love works in every situation of life. Impatience and anger are the attitudes of fools (Eccl. 7:9; Jas. 1:20). The “I want it, and I want it now” mentality is pure selfishness; it will cause more problems than it ever might solve. Patience is the virtue that can work wonders (Psa. 147:11; Isa. 40:31)! With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (36)
Not everything works out, but everything is worked out. Think about that statement for a minute. In life, things don’t always work out as we would like. But the great promise of Romans 8:28 is that all things will be worked out by God for good. What a tremendous promise! The verse does not promise freedom from trouble or hardship, but it does promise that God is working through the good times and the bad for our ultimate good. The two conditions for this promise to be effectual is that you love God and are called according to His purpose. If you love God and have obeyed the gospel, Romans 8:28 is yours! With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (37)
Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” Quite a statement isn’t it? Does “all things” really mean all things? Certainly “all things” is not a license to sin, and on the physical side God is not going to suspend the laws of universe so that this promise holds true. But rather, the apostle Paul has in mind the fact that all good things that God wants us to do are possible with the strength that Christ supplies. Don’t sell yourself short in becoming a better person! The spiritual qualities and works you are looking for are attainable if you will allow Jesus to work in your life. With this in mind, are you ready to “do all things?” With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (38)
The Old Testament prophets were powerful preachers. They spoke of the coming of the Messiah and the kingdom that He would establish. But the main thrust of their message was to the people of their day. They preached against the immorality and unspiritual living of that day. They spoke against materialism, sexual gratification, humanism, and compromise. Wait!, those topics are still relevant today! Our society is committing the same errors as did Israel many years ago. It would seem that human nature has changed very little. When Israel rejected the message of the prophets, they were rejecting God! The Old Testament Law of Moses is no longer in force, but God’s moral standard has not changed. To reject the preaching of the New Testament is to reject God! With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (39)
Christians have a special source of wisdom (see Jas. 1:5). The wisdom of modern scientists and scholars may seem amazing to most people, but their wisdom is trivial in comparison to the wisdom of the Creator of the universe—God. God’s wisdom is so vast that He originated every law of physics, chemistry, and astronomy. He produced all life and controls all things. Although He gave man the right to choose his destiny, He tells us in the Bible the way He wants us to live life to its fullest. Greater love, happiness, health, and prosperity comes to the Christian who will use God for his/her source of wisdom (Jas. 3:13-18). With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (40)
Christian people always have hope (Ti. 3:7). Hope is not an attitude of “I wish, I wish” but rather the desire for something with an expectation of fulfillment. True Christian hope desires spiritual rewards, and fully expects to receive them! Hope, therefore, brings encouragement in the presence of adversity. Jesus brought hope into a hopeless world. He gave us a plan for living which promises an abundant life on this earth and eternal happiness in heaven. No matter how difficult a situation may become, those who let Jesus rule their lives always have a sustaining hope. In hope we are saved (Rom. 8:24) and the Christian is never without it! Do you have this hope? With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (41)
Long term planning pays rich rewards.  But most people only make short range decisions. This “band-aid” approach leads to future difficulties and complications. We should always be aware that what we do today will affect tomorrow and lots more tomorrows after that.  Jesus wants us to avoid these problems by planning our lives with eternity in mind. He gave us the textbook on eternal planning—the Bible. You can live enjoyably today and every day if you will make good decisions that not only affect the “here and now” but have long-range goals in mind too. Are you planning to go to heaven? With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (42)
Self-denial strikes at the very core of our being. We like being in control and “calling all the shots” of our life. So when someone mentions self-control or self-denial it cuts deeply. Exercising self-denial means that you allow someone or something else to be boss. For many folks that is uncomfortable. But the enjoyment of self-denial depends on the boss. Allowing Jesus to be your “umpire” and rule your life (Col. 3:15) you can practice self-denial and actually enjoy it! Fact is, self-denial is the only way to be a true follower of Jesus (Lk. 9:23). It’s time to re-think the concept of self-denial and making Jesus your Lord and Master. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (43)
Technology can produce images that are not real. We go to the movies and know that some of the things on the screen are “computer generated.” The line between reality and fantasy has been blurred. This is what the devil would like for you to believe about him—that he is not real. The devil wants you to think that he is just something talked about and is no more than a “computer generated” fantasy. But the Bible says otherwise. It declares that the devil is real and is seeking to devour as many as possible (1Pet. 5:8). How real is the devil to you? In view of the Bible record, how real should he be to you? With sagacity, make the application to your life!

 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (44)
Most folks say they want to go to heaven when they die. But for some reason their lifestyle says otherwise. They fail to recognize that if there is a heaven to be gained there is also a hell to be avoided. God wants as many as will come to Him to be in heaven for eternity. Hell was not made for humans, but for the devil and his angels (Mt. 25:41). Yet, according to the Bible, unfaithful souls will be eternally separated from God in hell (Rev. 21:8). Faithful or unfaithful—how will you bow before God on the final day (Rom. 14:11; Phil. 2:9-11)? With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (45)
This time of year many are into what is usually called the “Halloween spirit.” It is a time where the unknown world of ghosts, demons, and evil is glorified. Most people can rightly divide between reality and fantasy and discard many of the stories and beliefs of the season. But the devil and his angels (the demons) are real and cannot be dismissed! The Bible says that the devil is to be feared (1Pet. 5:8) as a roaring lion. He is a powerful adversary (Rev. 12:9) seeking to devour. This “Halloween” season make no mistake about what is real and what is fantasy—to fail to do so means spiritual disaster. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (46)
Many people have a strange fascination with death. They don’t want to talk about it, but would really like to know “what it is like on the other side!” Is there an existence beyond this life? Will my spirit remain conscious after my bodies dies? These are all great questions that beg a greater understanding of the eternal nature of the soul. All the information we need concerning the after-life is found in the Bible. You can know of your eternal destiny, what will happen to your soul at the time of physical death, and most importantly how to be prepared for that event. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (47)
The apostle John wrote that “perfect love casts out fear” (1Jn. 4:18). Now be honest; with all this “Halloween” stuff going on are you scared of what you don’t understand? Are you troubled by not knowing if you are in a saved condition with the Lord? Does the thought of death and the unknown of the grave have you unsettled? If so, the Bible has the answers that will help you sort through these questions and restore your relationship with God. Once you completely (perfectly) love Him, your fear of the unknown will be gone. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (48)
The changing of the seasons shows the magnificence of creation and the Creator. Each calendar year we can see the weather cycle and in each event the Master’s influence is made abundantly evident (Rom. 1:20). While things seem to be dying and going into hibernation it is God’s way of allowing the earth to rest before everything begins all over again. With a God so perfectly in charge of the universe it only makes good sense to investigate what He has to say about human life too. Don’t give God the glory for nature and stop there! He has so much more to offer us in our relationships. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (49)
Everyone lives in three distinct areas. The first relationship we have is with ourselves. Sometimes the most difficult person to get along with is self! God can help in this relationship. The second relationship we have is with others. Oh, how to be able to live with others, and they with us, in an understanding way. God can help in this relationship too. The third relationship we have is with God. And when this relationship is right the other two will also improve (Mt. 22:37-39)! The Bible tells us how to be right with God, others, and self. Need help in restoring these three relationships? With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (50)
There are many problems in the world—that is no secret. No doubt as you have pondered about life and its troubles you feel overwhelmed. How can you or I change the world? Let me suggest that while we cannot change the whole world, we can change the world that we live in. You can work on your relationships, your family, your own personal life, and your life with God. Set some realistic and attainable goals in “your world.” Allow God’s word, the Bible, to be your guide, pray often, and see if you can make “your world” a better place. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (51)
I heard it said recently that no one truly receives a gift until they have thanked the giver. I like that thought. The giving of thanks is so important. Not only for the one being thanked, but also for the one being grateful. Selfishness never produces the joy or happiness that we are looking for. It is only when we are grateful for the blessings that come our way that we can be content and give to others. This Thanksgiving give thanks and praise for all the wonderful blessings in your life, and don’t forget to thank the One who is the giver of every good and perfect gift (Jas. 1:17). With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (52)
Have you ever heard the saying, “Sin takes you farther than you want to go, keeps you longer than you want to stay, and makes you pay a whole lot more than you thought you would”? This maxim describes the devastating effects of sin in one’s life. No one can “play around” with sin and get by with it. Sin is a sowing to the wind, and reaping the whirlwind (Hosea 8:7). The only way to defeat sin is to repent of it (turn away from). Jesus died to forgive your sin and give you a new life. Stop playing around with sin and turn to Jesus for a new life. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (53)
God placed man on this earth with everything necessary for a complete and successful life. He wants all people to be physically healthy, mentally alert, and spiritually growing in love for others and praise for Him. God’s manual, the Bible, is filled with practical, day-to-day rules for a successful and happy life. 2Peter 1:3 says, “According as His divine power has given unto us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him that has called us to glory and virtue.” God warns against materialism, self-worship, and spiritual apathy which can make life a meaningless treadmill and destroy man completely. Start living today—live for God! With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (54)
A study of the Old Testament prophets yields many good lessons. One of these lessons is the fact that God is willing to spare a wicked nation if He can find some righteous souls living in it. Solomon said “Righteous exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people” (Prov. 14:34). There are evil influences at work in our world. One way you can help insure that the society in which you live remains free from tyranny is to live a Christian life. As long as there is a godly remnant of people to carry on the Lord’s work, the OT teaches us that God will allow that society to continue. So, are you part of the problem, or part of the solution? With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (55)
There are two kinds of Christmases going on this year. One kind places a large ornamented tree in the house and pays homage to it by placing fancy wrapped gifts under it. Visions of receiving dance in youngsters heads as they anticipate the great day.
The other Christmas that is going on pays homage to the great gift Giver and the greatest gift of all time. God is worshipped as the lover of the world who sent Christ. Jesus is the greatest gift, for by His death He can offer salvation to all.
Which kind of Christmas have you been participating in? What is your reason for the season? With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (56)
     Made any New Year’s resolutions?
The problem with New Year’s resolutions is that we rarely keep them. With good intentions we make plans to better ourselves in some way, only to find, that in time we have slipped back into our old lifestyle.
Let me make a suggestion that I think will work better than New Year’s resolutions. If you want to change something about your life, make your resolution a new day resolution. We live life one day at a time, not one year at a time. Challenge yourself to make good your resolution on a daily basis. If you slip up, then you don’t have to wait another year, you can begin again tomorrow.
Made any New Day resolutions? With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (57)
No one is a complete person without spiritual training. How sad it is to see parents spend a fortune on education, clothing, food & shelter, college, and other necessities but do not provide for their spiritual welfare.
Man is a body, soul, and spirit being (1Th. 5:23). Each part needs to be fed. Exercise, clothing, and food takes care of the physical; education takes care of the intellectual; and the Bible takes care of the spiritual. Moral training under the care of God’s word will feed and nourish the soul.
As you provide for yourself and your family be sure to include spiritual training as part of your family routine. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (58)
John the Baptist said it this way in John 3:30; “He must increase and I must decrease.” This is an attitude often overlooked, but powerful when carried out. Selfishness, pride, and avarice are all dead-end streets on the walk of life. Such an inward devotion is destructive.
But to have self on the decrease means you must replace that “void” with something else. Make that something—Someone! As you allow the life and teachings of Jesus to fill you up you will find the meaning and blessings of life you are looking for.
Ask yourself, in your life, who is on the increase and who is on the decrease? With sagacity, make the application to your life!

 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (59)
When a person accepts Jesus Christ as their personal savior and is baptized, the Bible tells us that they receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Ac. 2:38). This third person of the godhead comes into the believer’s life as a deposit (or pledge) of the eternal life to come (Eph. 1:14). This means that the Christian is never spiritually alone. Jesus promised His presence in Mt. 28:20 and with the indwelling of the Spirit a child of God can have courage and confidence. If you have not become a Christian these blessings are yet to be part of your life. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (60)
Many problems that people have are brought upon themselves by the influence of others with whom they associate. A person can improve his/her life by spending more time with people of high ideals and constructive thinking. Regular church attendance and participation in Christian activities brings a person in contact with people whose lives are enriched by Jesus Christ. A true friend is one who inspires you to better living, not one who might bring you down to a level of disgrace. The Bible says, “Bad company is the ruin of a good character” (1Cor. 15:33). With sagacity, make the application to your life!

 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (61)
The Bible is the history of God’s relationship with humankind from our beginning. It tells us of God’s purpose in creating man and His desire to make man in His own image. Since the span between physical man and our spiritual God is great (because of sin), God made it possible for man to become spiritually acceptable through the death of His son, Jesus Christ. The apostle Peter said it this way, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved” (Ac. 4:12). Be a significant part of history by becoming a Christian! With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (62)
Valentine’s Day is a time of sending love letters and letting people know that they are very special in our lives. When the greeting is true and heart-felt a valentine says volumes to its recipient.
God has sent us a “valentine,” yes, a real love letter. It is called the Bible. In that “valentine” God tells us that He loves us, and wants us to love Him in return. His love is proved over and over again by the many blessings we enjoy from His hand; the greatest of which is the gift of His son, Jesus Christ.
Do you love God? You should because He has first loved us (1Jn. 4:19). Faith and obedience will show your love to Him. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (63)
Worry is one of the biggest problems most people have. The uncertainty of the future because of political unrest, inflation, and unemployment creates anxiety which can result in severe mental and physical problems. Christian people with a profound faith in God through Jesus Christ are free from most worry. God has promised that He will watch over, guide, and protect His faithful followers. He has promised an eternal home for those who really love Him and live the Christian life. You can conquer worry with God’s help (Phil. 4:6)! With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (64)
God, in His wisdom, established the family as the indispensable unity of the social structure. Its purpose is to perpetuate the race and nurture love for all people while giving reverence to God. In order to guard against the breakdown of the family, He condemned premarital and extra-marital sex, same sex unions, and polygamy (Heb.13:4; Rom. 1:26,27; 1Cor. 7:2). Christian people see the wisdom of God’s words and consider sexual relations as the most beautiful expression of human love and reserve it for marriage alone. Marriage—God’s way! With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (65)
In days gone by, millions have tried and failed. Today, millions try and they also fail. Why are all these people failures? Because they have tried to live life without God. Sin just doesn’t work. It gives a moment of enjoyment and then a lifetime of regret and unhappiness. Sin condemns in God’s sight. If your life is going backwards and things are working out, it’s time to try something different! Try living life God’s way. Follow His rules, His wisdom, and His promises. With the Bible as my witness, I guarantee things will improve when you live according to God’s word. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (66)
Have you ever heard the saying, “Business and religion just don’t mix.” I believe the axiom is true—because they are the same thing! Our religious beliefs, based in Scripture, should be part of every facet of our lives. Our moral center of right and wrong, grounded in the Bible, governs our conduct in business, relationships, sports, family—everything! I think it impossible for there to be an area of life that would not be covered by the Bible’s moral principles. “Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord” (Col. 3:17). Now life is easier because you have a universal code of ethics! Apply it everywhere! With sagacity, make the application to your life!

 --------------------------
SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (67)
Most of the problems people have today are brought upon themselves by the mistakes they make. With only one life to life and the certainty of death, a person cannot afford to waste his/her time with indecision and mistakes (Col. 3:25). God wants all people to be happy, healthy, and successful. He has given us His Son Jesus Christ, and His word the Bible to show us the way to a productive life. As you learn of the teachings of Jesus in the Bible you will find the keys to daily living and most importantly how to receive eternal life. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (68)
Child psychologists have found that giving love and attention to a new born baby is very important in its growth and development. This is also true of older children and adults in life. One of the greatest aids in problem solving is love and encouragement. We can contribute to the well-being of others by continually showing Christian love. One of the side benefits is that those who do such also receive a blessing! It is no wonder that God said, through the apostle John, “And this commandment have we from Him, that he who loves God loves his brother also” (1Jn. 4:21). Find someone you can love and encourage! With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (69)
The story is told of a man who was an atheist. He “boasted” of not having any holidays in which to celebrate. A friend told him that there was one day on the calendar each year that was in honor of those who say there is no God. That day is April Fool’s Day.
Psalm 14:1 states; “The fool has said in his heart there is no God.” The creation “speaks” of a Creator; the design of the universe a Designer; such could never happen by chance.
Don’t make April Fool’s Day your day. If you have doubt, work through the arguments for the existence of God. Believing is more rational than not believing. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (70)
Divorce is a problem. Some of the latest statistics say that 1 out of 2 marriages will end in divorce. This is very sad because the institution of marriage is from God and is designed to last a lifetime. God originated marriage as a divine arrangement where a man and woman would live together with the exclusion of all others throughout their lives. Marriage will survive if those who live in it will go back to the Bible and allow God’s book to guide, protect, and instruct spouses on how to treat each other. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (71)
It seems only logical to believe that the marvelous and beautiful world we live in had to be created by a super intelligent and powerful force (Gen. 1:1). We call this force—God. As God was creating the animals, He made man much superior with eyes that see colors, a mind that reasons and remembers, hands that manipulate, and the ability to recognize good and evil. God made man in His own image (Gen. 1:26) giving him a living, eternal soul. Don’t underestimate God’s presence in the world today. It is His creation and He still works in it! With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (72)
Too many times in life we take our blessings for granted. The health we take pleasure in, the food on our table, and the roof over our head are things often enjoyed without gratitude. God provides all things and if you can read this article, can work, and have the things mentioned above you are blessed.
If you know God, have obeyed His Son, and strive to live by the Bible you are wonderfully blessed. May your life be one of gratitude for all that God has done. His blessings are physical, mental, social, and spiritual. Step back and take inventory and you will be surprised as to all that God has accomplished in your life. Give Him praise & glory! With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (73)
The renewal of Spring always gives great hope in life. We are amazed and even thrilled when we see nature come back to life. The dead of winter has been resurrected into color, growth, and reproduction.
Such renewal is possible for humans too! Jesus has promised a new life for Christians. As a child of God your sins will be forgiven, you will be a member of His church, and have the hope of eternal life.
Those who respond in faith, repentance, confession, and baptism receive these blessings. Are you ready, like Spring, to be resurrected into a new life? With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (74)
It won’t work unless you follow the directions! How many times have we been so prideful that instead of reading the instructions we go ahead and try to build or assemble something only to find out, it didn’t work! Our problem was not a lack of ability—but it was a lack of the proper know how.
Life is that way. It can be lived to its fullest only when we read and follow the directions! God’s instruction book is the Bible and it has everything we need (2Pet. 1:3).
So is it time to stop trying to do it on your own? Is it time to give up, and read the directions? With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (75)
Christians are to be salt and light (Mt. 5:13,14). This means that our words and lifestyle should be exemplary of how people are to live. As salt we become that which improves and lengthens life. As light we become wisdom and knowledge.
One very important way you can help those around you, and even those you don’t know is by living a Christian life that will show integrity. Your life may be the only Bible that some people will ever read. Being salt and light will show someone who is searching or having problems the way to live above their struggles. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (76)
Have you ever heard someone say, “What’s wrong with this picture?” They probably have reference to something that is painstakingly obvious to them but not to someone else.  In a world full of greed, materialism, theft, pornography, and lies; one can look and say, “What is wrong with this picture?”
The answer to the question is sin. Sin is what is wrong with the world. While some will scoff at this somewhat simplistic answer it is nevertheless true. Jesus came to earth because the world was lost in sin. If you look at your life and wonder “what’s wrong with this picture?” the answer may very well be—sin. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (77)
Jobs are a very important part of the nation’s economy. Families function better in providing for themselves when there is at least one in the household who has a job.
Spiritually speaking there are other kinds of jobs in each family. The husband has the job of loving his wife; wives must respect their husbands; and parents must provide for their children. But what job do children have? Paul, in Eph. 6:1, answers that question. Children have the job of obeying their parents. If they will do that they will have a long and productive life (Eph. 6:2,3).
A secular job that will only bring a measure of wealth; the best job for a child is to love and obey their mom and dad. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (78)
The New Testament instructs Christians to dress modestly or appropriately (1Tim. 2:9,10). Christians are not to draw attention to themselves by what they do or do not wear. They are not to become objects of desire. To act or dress inappropriately invites trouble (Mt. 5:27,28).
As the warmer, Summer weather is upon us may we think twice about how we are dressed. Are we giving the wrong message by our attire? Are we known for our apparel or lack thereof? It is one thing to be attractive and dress for the occasion, but is quite another when we dress to invite improper thoughts and advances. As you go out today, how are you dressed? With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (79)
While some may view Christianity as a set of rules that mostly say, “Don’t,” God actually wants people to be healthy and happy. The medical profession tells us that many of the physical and mental illnesses we have are caused by envy, anxiety, hate, pride, selfishness, and greed. Man could eliminate much of his problems if he could rid himself of these mental and spiritual ‘sins’ (Prov. 10:27).  The person who earnestly tries to live as the Bible Teaches avoids many mental and physical problems. Christian living can help you live longer and happier. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (80)
There are many battlefronts in life. Some would consider the economy a major battle—they wants jobs a plenty, and good ones at that! Some consider one’s physical health to be at the forefront. They fight for clean, wholesome food with an absence of chemicals and additives. But the most important battle is spiritual. We are in a fight with the devil for our own soul (Eph. 6:11). No matter what other battles one wins, the battle for eternity must be primary. How are you doing in your battle against temptation and sin? You can only win it through Jesus Christ. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (81)
Some have the concept of God that says He is a “cosmic cop” always looking to find someone guilty of sin. This view of God sees Him not as the Redeemer and Savior but as an enforcer and punisher. The truth is that God wants everyone man, woman, and child to go to heaven. He made it simple and easy to accept His eternal blessings. All He asks is that a person be born anew through baptism and strive to live the abundant life of Christian. God sends His Holy Spirit to encourage, guide, and strengthen each new Christian. God is always ready to forgive! Need an attitude adjustment about God? With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (82)
God will bless the nations that look to Him for guidance (Psa. 33:12). The United States was founded upon the Christian principle that all men are created equal under God and that all human life is of divine origin. This country has prospered beyond any country which has ever existed and will continue to as long as we reverence God and conduct our national affairs in keeping with His commands. We, as individuals, have the same promise of abundant blessings as long as we let God govern our lives. Our future will be doom and gloom if we abandon God’s principles of godliness—that is the testimony of history. May God bless as we do His will! With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (83)
There are many difficult situations in life that seem to be hopeless. Problem solving by yourself can be very depressing. Sharing your problems with others is a help, but the greatest Helper is Jesus. God’s wisdom is unlimited, and it is always available (Jas. 1:5) to those who put Jesus first in their lives. Many people rely on God for comfort, strength, wisdom, and courage to face life’s difficult situations. God is always willing to accept you if you will let Him guide your life (Prov. 3:5,6). With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (84)
While many in the world don’t know it, God has His own VIP (very important person) list. His criteria for that list is that a person accept Jesus as Lord in baptism. The blessings of forgiveness of sins and the Holy Spirit follow (Ac. 2:38). Christians are thought of by God as a chosen people, royalty, holy, and special (see 1Pet. 2:9). Christians have been called out of the world’s darkness and into His marvelous light. While God loves everyone in the world, Christians are VIPs in His eyes. You can have great confidence and self-esteem by giving your life to God. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (85)
Is it quantity or quality? This argument must be settled in order to know how to live life. Many have chosen the “quantity route” and spend their lives in the acquiring of all kinds of wealth and material goods. Others have chosen to be rich in quality. They find satisfaction in things such as peace, love, gentleness, and joy. The sad part about living for quantity is that one’s greed will never be satisfied (Lk. 12:15). But those who focus on being what God wants them to be (people of quality) find satisfaction and fulfillment. Win the quantity/quality argument in your life by becoming a Christian. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (86)
Most parents are concerned about their children’s welfare as they grow up. They want them to become socially successful, physically attractive, healthy, and outstanding scholastically and athletically. Christian parents are especially concerned about their children’s spiritual growth and maturity knowing that the real reward of success is eternal salvation. The most you can do is to encourage your child(ren) to live a dedicated Christian life which will lead to greater happiness on earth and a home in heaven. Take a moment and read Mt. 16:26. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (87)
Hate is destructive. If you hate someone you become unhappy every time you think of them. They may not even be concerned about your dislike for them. You are the only one who is miserable because you have hate in your heart. Christian people who put God first in their lives, are told to eliminate hate by asking God for forgiveness and requesting His help in changing that hate into Christian love. Take a minute and read Matthew 5:44. Hate always brings misery. Love brings happiness. Don’t waste any more of your valuable time in hating someone—you are the only one getting hurt! With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (88)
The Christian has nothing to fear in growing old. Probably no single desire or wish is more cherished than that of being able to live a carefree, happy life many years beyond the normal life span. Many people upon reaching old age would gladly give all they have to be young again. The greatest miracle of all times is that this wish can come true! The God that made the world and everything in it has promised that when this life is over, Jesus will lead His people into a land of exquisite beauty and supreme delight which they can enjoy forever! Read 1Jn. 2:25. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (89)
God loves you more than you may think. God made man superior to all His creation, even the angels. He gave us eyes to enjoy His handiwork; hands to work with His world; a mind that can think and reason, the ability to love and be loved; and the ability to choose between right and wrong. He even gave knowledge of Himself to mankind through the Bible. And above all, He gave Jesus Christ to the world that everyone might be saved. With all of this in mind, doesn’t God deserve the very best from us? Should we not live as He has directed in the world He has provided for us? I think so! With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (90)
This week many are going back to school. No doubt parents and guardians spent a lot of money getting their kids ready for class. And while this is a good thing, I wonder how much time and effort parents will expend in taking their children to Bible school. Since the Bible is the greatest book a person can know, it is a shame to see so many put a heavy emphasis on secular learning and ignore spiritual pursuits through the knowledge of the Bible. Let me encourage you to attend Sunday school and get to know Jesus through the Bible. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (91)
Without faith it is impossible to please God. That is the testimony of Hebrews 11:6. To be pleasing to God means being full of faith. One part of that faith is simply believing that God exists. It is an intellectual acknowledgement of His presence. Another part is much more difficult, and that part is to put your trust in Him as your provider and guide. Since no one can “prove” the existence of God, He must be approached and served by faith. So if you believe God exists that is good! But you are ready to take the next step — putting your life in His care and keeping. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (92)
Repentance may not be a word you hear very often. It is used mostly in religious circles to talk about a lifestyle change that is necessary for salvation. Jesus said that unless a person repents they will perish (Luke 13:3,5). To repent means to turn, and when a person repents of sin, they turn away from an ungodly way of life, to that which God rewards. Repentance is difficult because it demands a change from the inside out—a complete overhaul of thinking and lifestyle. But to those who do it, they find blessings, forgiveness, and peace of mind. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (93)
Confession is to be made unto salvation (Rom. 10:9,10). A person must confess their faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God to be saved (Mt. 10:32,33). This confession must be heart-felt; mere lip service is not acceptable. One must back up their confession with the appropriate actions for that confession to be worth anything. Jesus said not to call Him Lord and not do the things He says (Mt. 7:21). If you are ready to confess the name of Christ that is a good thing, but before you do remember that the good confession is not good if it is not accompanied by works. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (94)
Baptism has been debated over the years. Some believe that it is necessary for salvation, others believe it is a good thing to do for all who truly want to be pleasing to God, and others believe it is not necessary at all. So what is a person to think about being baptized? Let me encourage you not to take man’s word for it, but see what Jesus and His apostles said about baptism. Search out, think through, and pray over these scriptures; Mk. 16:16; Ac. 2:38; 22:16; 1Cor. 12:13; 1Pet. 3:21. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (95)
Too many people become Christians and for whatever ‘reason’ they give up on trying to live a faithful life. One cannot become a child of God, reject the life Christ wants them to live, and hope to retain their salvation (Mt. 26:15). Patience, endurance, and faithfulness are necessary components to becoming what God wants us to become. Satan will do whatever he can to discourage people from living a faithful Christian life. But it is possible to overcome all the trials and troubles of life. Think through 1Cor. 10:12,13 and Rev. 2:10. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (96)
Have you heard someone say, “I tried that once and it didn’t work.” Sometimes people say that about religion. They have tried to live the Christian life, failed in one way or another, and have given up. If you fit into this category I have good news! God hasn’t given up on you. You can try again! And just maybe with the right encouragement from fellow Christians you can make it this time. Don’t allow a setback or two to become spiritual failure! God has blessed you with another day and opportunity to get your life right. Come back to Christ and the church for which He died. With sagacity, make the application to your life!

SAGACITY AND SCRIPTURE (97)
The old song says, “Heaven will be worth it all.” How true that is. To miss the eternal blessings and glories of heaven is to miss the greatest of all things. Jesus left the earth to go and prepare a place for His people (Jn. 14:1-3). He wants to save as many as possible and there is plenty of room for all who want to go. Don’t allow the temptations of the world cloud your thinking. There is nothing the world has to offer that is better than the blessings of heaven. Sin takes you where you don’t want to go, keeps you longer than you want to stay, and makes you pay more than you ever thought you would. With sagacity, make the application to your life!
